For 60 years SIMAIR has been SIM’s aviation branch. The first planes to be based in Niger came to Niamey in 1976, and today SIMAIR continues to provide an invaluable service to mission personnel.
SIMAIR also transports staff to remote destinations throughout the region, saving hours (if not days) of time and effort. The dedicated crew usually manage multiple flights a week, delivering missionaries, visitors and equipment alike.
Lately, with the price of oil sky-rocketing and the decreasing availability of avgas – a blend of gasoline previously relied on heavily for small planes – SIMAIR has moved towards solely flying diesel engined aircraft. This has facilitated reducing and maintaining the low cost of flights, keeping the service affordable for mission staff.
Needless to say, the pilots are popular members of SIM Niger!
