Sahel Academy is a Christian school located in Niamey, the capital of Niger. Founded by SIM in 1987 to serve the children of missionaries, it has grown to become a truly international school, with over 150 students.
Sahel seeks to offer a quality Christian education to children of elementary and secondary age. The majority are still children of international missionaries – from several missions as well as SIM – but the enrolment is also open to English-speaking students whose families desire a Christian education for them. Today, these represent a third of those enrolled.
Sahel Academy’s vision statement is: learners, loving God, transforming their world. Devoted to this vision, we daily apply ourselves to our mission: to develop students through a holistic education of the highest quality while nurturing a Christ-like character and a heart of service.
The school follows an English-speaking international curriculum, which includes IGCSE courses (from Cambridge University) for grades 9-10. The school has received accreditation with ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) and MSA (Middle States Association).
The school property is located across the Niger River from the main part of the city of Niamey. The campus includes a media center (including a library and computer lab), music building, secondary building (including art room and science lab), administration wing, dining room and kitchen, elementary classrooms and a dormitory. Facilities for recreation include a playing field for soccer and softball, a sports court, and a playground area.
